TESTIMONIALS

Dr. Pam Phillips is an absolute miracle worker when it comes to the human voice. As someone who has had the honor of having lessons both in person as well as virtually, she always manages to get the best out of my voice. Regardless of the style of music I bring into the lesson, she is always able to offer technical ways to help me achieve my goals and find freedom in my body while doing so. I leave each lesson with a greater feeling of joy and connection to my voice. I give her my highest recommendation.
— James LaRosa
Pam has helped me so much as a singer and performer in general. When I first started lessons with her I had limiting beliefs about my vocal abilities. I didn’t think I could belt and really had no idea how to access my chest voice and move through my range evenly. With Pam’s help I gained both confidence and technical ability. Pam is an incredible teacher. She is able to explain things in several different ways, and even with concepts that have been more difficult for me to grasp initially, eventually one of her creative suggestions sinks in. Pam has helped me in more ways that I can describe, and every lesson I leave feeling accomplished and capable to continue working on my own until the next lesson.

Pam Phillips has been invaluable to me as both a voice teacher and artistic mentor. From the technical aspects of the voice to the holistic approach of performance, she has helped shape the singer I have become. Pam takes on each student’s voice as unique to them, focusing on the areas that need development, refinement, and release, in order to reach their fullest potential of uninhibited expression. I always felt incredibly safe working with Pam, never feeling pushed, but always trusting that I could go further, and if I fell on my face (so to speak) she was always there to catch me, getting me back to solid ground. I always feel in the utmost care with Pam, and that I am working with the best. I wish I could study with her every day. She has freed my voice and allowed me to soar.

PAM’S PHILOSOPHY

“Whether an absolute beginner or a working professional, I have fun with my students exploring ways to improve their voice. I’ve worked with singers in perfect vocal health and those needing to rehabilitate their voice after a vocal injury.

My students trust me to give them solid advice on how to improve their technique. Every singer has personal goals based on their style of singing so every lesson is unique in how we address making sounds. My first lesson of the day may focus on addressing musical theater sounds for a teenager and the next lesson may focus on helping a professional rock singer strengthen head voice so they can easily meet the demands of a nightly gig with a rock band. The sounds that each person makes in their lesson may not be the sounds they take on the stage but the discipline of working all areas of the voice for balance shows up in how versatile the singer is when they walk onstage.

Since I had the joy of writing Singing for Dummies, my teaching philosophy is described in great detail throughout the book. Singing is fun and learning the technique of singing can also be fun. Developing technique requires repetition like any other sport or physical art. It may take months before the technical skills are consistent so every singer has to create fun while mustering the discipline to practice their singing exercises to develop their technique.”
